Lincoln is here!!

Well, for those of you who have not heard....Lincoln Miles Calhoun arrived at 3:52 p.m. on Thursday February 11, 2010 weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 20 inches long!

I know there are some of you who read the post prior to this one and you are confused as to why he arrived on Thursday instead of Friday when the induction was scheduled. Well, the reason is that Lincoln had a plan all his own of arriving.

Wednesday night (soon after I wrote that post) my stomach started to have an occassional pain -- nothing serious just a little bothersome. Cory and I had stayed up late that night hanging out playing Phase 10 dice and having a good time -- enjoying what we thought would be our second to last night as a childless couple. About 11:00 p.m. we decided it was time to head to bed. Right before we turned the lights out, I decided to go get a piece of cheese to eat (which has been my staple snack throughout pregnancy). As I was walking back to the bedroom eating my piece of cheese -- I felt it. Yes, my water had broken. It was 11:45 p.m. I'll be honest -- I freaked. This was not the PLAN!! I had my mind set on this occuring Friday and not right now! I told Cory what I thought had happened. He wasn't convinced. So, I went to wake up my mom (who has been staying with us in preparation for Lincoln's arrival) and finally convinced everyone that I was in LABOR! Off we headed to the ER.

Once there, I was admitted about 1:00 a.m. and put in a room! Soon after that I received my epidural and told to rest and they would be in to check me in the coming hours. From about that time till 8:00 a.m. or so it was all a blur. I do remember that at one point they came to check me and I was at 5 cm. The next time they came to check I was at 9 cm. The next note-worthy moment throughout the process was that by about 10:00 a.m. my body was 100% ready to deliver but Lincoln was too cozy and not wanting to come! The doctor (who was another doctor from my clinic that I had not met before) told me that they were going to let me "labor down" (sit up in my bed and let gravity move Lincoln down) for another hour or so. This process ended up lasting 4 hours till 2:00 p.m. when he had moved down some and the doctor was ready for me to start pushing. I ended up having to push for 2 hours! And Lincoln finally decided to give up and enter the world at 3:52 p.m. Wow. What a moment that will forever be etched our minds! We were instantly in love!

We were fortunate to have all of our parents, Cory's brothers family and the next day my aunt came up to help us celebrat his arrival.

Time to go home!
Let's go home!!

All in all, the way that this event occurred was perfect and we would not have wanted it any other way. I believe that the Lord placed that doctor there that day because he was willing to take on the challenge of the delievery and work with me to bring Lincoln safely into this world. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time with our new little guy. We think he is perfect and quite the snuggle-bug! Our first night home was definitely rough but each day and night has gotten better! I hope now that we are home and settled to get in some new posts about what life is like as a family of three.

Friday (February 12th) is "D-Day"!

Well, at my appointment today we talked to Dr. P about our options and decided that an induction on Friday morning was the best option. I have progressed a little bit from last week but not a ton. I feel very ready for this event and feel confident that with all the progressions I have made (almost 4 cm dilated, 75% effaced, and Lincoln sitting very low) this can be a very smooth process. Especially since I have made all this progress and have never felt one contraction! I told her I was worried at this rate I would miss my window of opportunity for the epidural and we wouldn't want that. :) Plus, all along I have measured about 5-6 days ahead so I feel confident that he has had plenty of time in there :) So, Friday morning at 5:00 a.m. I will check into the hospital and receive my epidural first thing! We will go from there and see where that leaves us!

And, on a side note -- Abraham Lincoln's bday is Friday, February 12th as well. So, it looks like our Lincoln will share his b-day with ole' Abe and it will forever be pre-printed on everyone's calendar "Lincoln's Birthday."

If you think of us Friday morning please say a prayer {or several for that matter} for us. It's hard to wrap your brain around how much our lives are about to change forever!

38 Week Update.

So, I went this morning for my 38 week appointment. I am currently 3.5 cm dilated and 75% effaced. She also agreed with me that he is "sitting" a lot lower! She said she would be surprised if I did not come on my own in the next week!!! WOW! I have another appointment next Wednesday in case I do make it a week and we will discuss induction at that point -- if needed!! I feel encouraged and have a feeling he will be here VERY soon!! YEAH!!!
