O'Dells Take Grayton: The beginning

On Friday afternoon, May 31st, we loaded up and headed south for the first leg of our trip.  The kids fell asleep pretty quick after we left because it was nap time.

We stopped a few times and ended up timing it just right that we were able to meet up with my parents who got off work and were leaving out of Little Rock.  We met up down the road to grab a quick bite to eat and Lincoln rode with them.  It was nice to split the kids up because it allowed each of them to sleep without the other waking them up.  Emery took another short nap as the evening wore on.

We stopped for the evening right outside of Jackson, MS.  The kids were both whining, screaming, crying for the last 20 minutes and we were just laughing b/c what else can you do but drive a little faster. We got settled in our hotel room and the kids slept fairly well.  The next morning we headed even further South to Hattisburg to meet up with my brother and his family.  We arrived at the House of Blues Saturday evening and visited the pool right after we unloaded our things.  We all slept well that evening.

Sunday we loaded up everyone and everything and headed off to spend the morning at the beach.  Lincoln was so excited to FINALLY see the beach since we have been talking about it so long.  He has seen the beach once before but he was 15 months and definitely does not remember.  It did not take him long to know what to do with all that sand.  Emery did pretty well with her time in the sun and sand.  Before we left she had just gone to one nap a day.  However, the sun wore her out so every morning we spent at the beach she napped while we held her.  The morning we spent at the pool she went back to the house for her morning nap.  She was a serious trooper throughout the whole trip.

Thankfully this was me for at least some period of each day.  The beach is my happy place.  My dream day is sitting on the beach for an entire day.  Love.

Sunday evening we went to the Back Porch to eat in Destin.  We went right at 5:00 and managed to get a table for 12 with no wait.  Great food.  Perfect service.  Amazing beach side atmosphere.  At one point Lincoln stood up in his chair and said "Holy Moly!  There is water over there!"  There is not much sweeter than life through the eyes of a child.

Tilly sat down by Emery and these two enjoyed their meal together quite nicely.

After dinner, Cory and my brother took the kids hunting for crabs.  A definitely highlight of the trip for Lincoln.

More beach fun photos to come...
