Playa Del Carmen: The Resort

Big props to my hubby for researching and finding this AMAZING all-inclusive resort for my 30th birthday trip!  One of his strength is researching until he finds the best place at the best price!  Our flight left at 6:00 a.m. Friday morning from XNA so we were up at 3:30 to get ready and get there.  We flew from XNA to Atlanta where we caught our flight to Cancun, Mexico.

Each of us have only been out of the country one time separately (me to Nicaragua and Cory to Africa) and then together on our honeymoon to Jamaica.  However, we had been warned about the airport at Cancun but I don't think we were warned enough. After we went through customs and got our bags we headed to the lobby area.  We were then bombarded by about 50+ men and women yelling at us.  They were all dressed the same and were wanting to know if we had transportation to our resort.  We ignored them like professionals and headed outside the airport to find our "ride" which was Delta Vacations.  (We had a travel agent book our trip and she connected us through Delta Vacations for our transportation and we had the best experience with them -- highly recommend).

We found our driver and hopped on a bus with 2 other couples.  They were going to different resorts which were before ours so we rode along to drop them off.  We very much enjoyed visiting with one of the couple who have been vacationing in Playa Del Carmen for 20+ years and gave us the run down on the area while we rode 45 minutes to their resort.  Then ours was next and it was about 20 more minutes further down the road in Playa Del Carmen.

We stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace. When we pulled up into our resort Cory and I were in shock.  It was huge.   There are several Barcelo resorts on this property but we were informed by the people we met that the "Palace" was the "nicest" one.  The pictures do not do it justice but here are a few.

We enjoyed lots of R & R at the pool and at the beach, ate lots of yummy foods and visited the Mayan ruins.  More posts to come!
